Considering the huge commitment and effort made by Wilson’s students and their teachers to rugby, hockey, cricket and basketball, it is surprising that they have any place left on their busy schedule for the testing sport of athletics. But of course we all know that the legacy of Joe Weafer, teacher, sports coach and friend to a generation of students ensures that athletics will always have a special place at Wilson's Hospital School.
During the year, students competed with varying degrees of success at various events including:
- East Leinster Cross-Country League
- North Leinster and Leinster Cross-Country Championships
- North Leinster Schools Regional Track and Field Championships at Santry
- The Annual Wilson's Hospital School Sports
- The Westmeath Schools Cross-Country at Belvedere, Mullingar
- The Geraldine Dolan Memorial Cross-Country at Oldcastle.
Some fine athletes are to be seen in the school and with the right effort the rewards can be well worth while.
